Many times! Maybe you should suggest that for Mel’s list of features and improvements? Or another category for ‘seals in image but outside poly’…
Mobile training polys is what we need, polys we can slide over…“Nooo, the seals are over here poly”
I found a research station with a helipad.
Go to the right of the poly to the right edge of the map, then down until you hit a large rock where the station is situated. Note the jet black area directly below the helipad.
I couldn’t see it on this URL…but is it this one: Sorry my first post, and I didn’t post the tile # or the URL…
Wow…I missed it completely! Thanks!
I did try to look it up see which one it is but ran out of time
India station - Bharati Research Station?
(or maybe that referred to another pic I posted in Jan).
Yes well done T_Boechler Bharati Research Station, that’s the very one!
@Jim7 Google maps 69° 24.41’ S, 76° 11.72’ E
Here’s an Antarctic Duck …
Seriously @cagey how many times do we have to warn you not to use Antarctica as a scratching post to sharpen you claws on
Don’t you know you could get serious frost bite and all your claws will drop off
And just look at the mess you leave behind
I was learnin’ to play the git-tar with backup penguin singers…
Speaking of penguin singers, did ya’ll see where they discovered the largest Adela penguin colony using satellite photography? Betcha it was us who showed them where it was at, just like when we figured out that there were volcanoes poking up from under the ice.
2017 Dec New Antarctica Weddel Seals campaign - Mawson and Davis Adare Seas
I don’t think I have seen this research station before…any ideas?
(https://www.tomnod.com/campaign/campaign_2235/question/342188) just to the right of the poly
Unless it just looks different on this particular tile
Hard to see but there are buildings there…!
@T_Boechler Looking at that map link, over to the left of it and slightly lower, you can see the Bharati Research Station…
…maybe it’s part of that research station:thinking:
Yes it probably is an extension of that station. Could be the abandoned “first” station in my first pics. They don’t seem to be used. The second set there is obvious snow piles on a roadway.
Here’s a clearer image of it on Google Maps -69.378581, 76.386664
But anyway, according to some photo’s on Google Earth, they’re China’s Zhongshan Station, Progress Station and Law Racovita Station.
I’m still trying to figure out the station in your first set of images. I’m sure there must be an easier way, but I do love searching for needles in haystacks…the hard way
Thanks. That is a much better photo!!!
I tried myself to look up the different research stations, but could not find one that matched the first photos. They stated there are several abandoned research/military stations and I wonder if this is one. It seems to have a pool of ice around one building, and no roads, or areas that seemed to be used like we have seen in the other stations, like the one above.
